All tours of Lake Baikal usually start in the Listvyanka settlement located on the south-eastern shore of Baikal, 65 klm from Irkutsk. On the way to Listvyanka settlement there is an opportunity to visit Ethnographic Museum of Wooden Architecture Taltzy (47 klm of Baikalsky highway) noted for its astounding monuments of unique wooden architecture of the 17th -19th century. There is a short stop at the Observation Platform to listen to the legend about the Rock of Shaman. Upon arrival at Listvyanka you will enjoy an excursion to the Baikal Ecology Museum displaying exhibits of the lake’s unique flora and fauna. With in easy walking distance of Listvyanka, the tour includes visits to St. Nicolas Orthodox Church and the local fish market plus a chance to top up on local souvenirs. All guests are welcome to taste Baikal fish in a local restaurant on the shore of the lake.

Ethnographic museum of wooden architecture “Taltzy”

Duration: 1-2 hours

This old Siberian village represents the dwellings, elements of everyday life, customs, traditions and religious cults of Russians, Buryats and Evenky (native people of the region). The oldest wooden building in the area is Kazanskaya Church dated 1679. The astounding monuments of the unique wooden architecture of the 17th -19th century perfectly fit in with the picturesque landscapes of the surrounding area. Nowadays this place is often used for holding festivals and holidays in pure Siberian style.

Baikal Limnology Museum

Duration: 1 hour

Baikal Limnology Museum displays exhibits of the lake’s unique flora and fauna, stuffed animals, a rich collection of minerals, various species of fish and other organisms inhabiting the lake. Aquariums represent some living species of Baikal fauna, fish, crustaceans and the unique Baikal Seal. Afterwards enjoy virtual tour to the maximum depth of the lake on bathyscaphe!!
